Read aloud
When off, tapping the page never starts audio, so highlighting stays put on a phone. Turn it on to read aloud, then tap where you want to start.
Settings
Keep your library safe
Connect a folder and Backchat mirrors your books and notes into real files you own, then reads them back on any device you open the folder on. This is the recommended way to keep everything safe. Nothing is uploaded anywhere.
No folder yet? The Save and Load buttons on the home screen keep a single backup file of everything, which you can restore from anytime.
Move notes to another device
Send just your highlights and comments as one small file, then import it on the other device. Your book files stay where they are.
Highlights, comments and progress only, no book files. With a folder connected it writes to a notes/ folder and keeps latest.json current; otherwise it downloads.
Merges by id. Newest edit wins, furthest reading position wins. Nothing is ever deleted, whatever order you import in.
Send to Obsidian
A readable Markdown snapshot of your reading, one file per book, with your highlights, comments and the links between them. Made for your notes app, not for restoring.
Unzip it straight into an Obsidian vault. Connections become [[wikilinks]] so your books link to one another. A snapshot, not a restore point.
Search & storage
Search inside book text is built automatically. Rebuild it here only if results ever look wrong.
Lets you search inside book text. Runs automatically; use this only to force a rebuild.
Danger zone
Irreversible. Make sure you have a backup first.
Erases every book, highlight, comment and reading position stored in this browser. Irreversible. Your connected folder and the files in it are not deleted; this browser is disconnected so the cleared data cannot sync back in.

Edit details
Summary is what the book is. Your own notes, takeaways and quotes now live in the in-book Scratchpad.
Comma separated. People, themes, concepts, any length. Each becomes a [[link]] in Obsidian.
